string(2216) "In October, Wilma's Wish Productionsis going to Iceland to finish shooting & editing a documentary that celebrates the creative impetus within Icelanders. They have many wonderful organizations and musicians involved, such as Sindri, Seabear, Ólafur Arnalds, Amiina, Reykjavik Artist Residency & other creative think tanks from Germany and the UK. This documentary brimming with positivity & all from the mouths of the Icelandic communities we are filming in. They have started up an online fundraising campaign on Kickstarter for the last little bit we need for the basic essentials while we are there. Kickstarter is an innovative platform in which artists can receive funding and give back to contributors. There is one simple rule, either the project reaches its financial goal or it doesn't get any of the funds. Wilma's Wish Productions is close to their goal, partly because Kickstarter has listed us as one of the top ten projects to discover. The fundraising will finish in less than two weeks. They are also in the process of setting up screenings in Toronto & Gimli. See more if you click on the picture below:

string(1632) "The latest video artpiece from The Weird Girls Project will be screened Wednesday 8. September @ Bakkus @ 21:00. This is Episode # 11 of the series and has a video set to a track of Ólafur Arnalds, namely "Tunglið" (The Moon). This piece was a very special one taking body confidence to the next level as it involved being naked which was not a first choice for any of the girls involved – including Kitty who decided to use this piece as a way to challenge her growing consciousness of post-baby-body. She appealed to the girls to trust her (even more than usually) and the day’s performance instantly became a top favourite for the girls involved and Kitty herself. The aim of the project and the piece reached a climax with this piece and is something all of the women involved - both crew and cast – are incredibly proud of. Ólafur Arnalds @ MySpace "

string(108) "All Scandinavian refers to Icelandic music & I love Icelandic music Blog in Interview with Lazy Acre Records"
["atom_content"]=>
string(11262) "Today I read some bad news for music blogs/mp3 blogs. Google is taking them down again, espec. in the USA, because record/publishing companies ask them to do so. But often the bands agreed to put some stuff online for free. But often bu$ine$$ people don't agree with this kind of promotion. I know there are a lot of "bad" websites/blogs putting whole albums online, incl. scans of the artwork. But other blogs are there just to promote (good) music (with as goal to invite people to go & buy the music/go to gigs). These blogs are often made with love, but without any profit or benefit. It takes a big effort to keep these blogs running. A beautiful blog is Peter's blog about Scandinavian music. A blog dedicated to all Scandinavian music, including the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Finland & Iceland. He's go a link to this blog 2. Thanks Peter!
Peterof All Scandinavian was interviewed by the indepent record label Lazy Acre Records:
We've mentioned a few times on here in recent months just how important blogs and independent music sites are too a little label like ours so we really wanted to try and repay some of the love they've shown us in the last few months by doing a few interviews with them over here on the blog. In this - the first installment, we have a chat with the lovely Peter, who runs the awesome All Scandinavian blog. I'd definitely suggest you check out his site asap! Hello Peter how are you? Not too bad, thanks for asking. Your website is called All Scandinavian - which of these lovely scandinavian countries do you call home? Denmark. That’s the twig and berries right above Germany for any geographically challenged readers. How did you fall into blogging in the first place? Were you writing elsewhere already or was it more a case of just being compelled to write about some brilliant music? I’m a journalist and have been writing about music for six years, freelance and back in the days as editor at a Danish music website for a couple of years. The whole blogging thing came out of me writing about music, a desire to build my own corner of the www, and finally wanting to make people aware of some of the amazing music being made in the Scandinavian countries. When I got the idea for the blog it struck me that the major blogs in English about Scandi music I was of aware of were all written by outsiders, e.g. It’s A Trap, ILove Icelandic Music and Swedesplease. It seemed appropriate with a Scandinavian based supplement to these great sites. What is about Sweden that creates such effortlessly wonderful pop music? In my opinion a major part of it is because Swedish bands have never been afraid to be pop, very much thanks to the success of ABBA. Speaking from a Danish point of view, pop has always been frowned upon by musicians and tastemakers. Really the worst thing you could be labeled as a band was mainstream pop. It has changed the past years with more bands admitting to like it and be it, but I would say it’s still not comme il faut in certain circles, and even though Aqua is the biggest selling Danish band ever, it’s not something we generally take pride in. Actually, we kinda feel a need to apologize to the world. How important is that heritage to young up and coming bands do you think? Are bands keen to take their place in line with these amazing acts or are they more interested do you think in forging their own way? I think ABBA have played a pivotal role in Swedish music. Apart from selling an awesome number of records, they have been part in installing a great confidence in own abilities in the Swedish music industry as a whole, bands included, and made it natural for Swedish bands to aim internationally from the get-go. That said, I think all bands are and should be more interested in forging their own way - while of course aiming for glory. There seems to be a much lower regard (speaking from an outsiders point of view) for British and American cultures with young scandinavian bands - as if they’re more comfortable being "themselves" than emulating the yanks... Would you agree with that or am I being blinkered? I’m too polite to call you blinkered, but I think it is a fairly new development. Traditionally the Scandinavian countries, not least Denmark, have always needed bigger and stronger allies like the UK and US, which means we’ve always been looking out and been willing to incorporate elements of other cultures in our own. British and American pop culture has been and still is a major influence, but for instance in Denmark these years there definitely seems to be a newfound confidence to “be yourself”, something I think a band like Efterklang has played a part in developing. Give us your opinions on a couple of Scandinavian music cliches - are these occasionally appropriate or hugely misguided: Sweden = pop genius Very appropriate. Norway = heavy metal To some extend misguided. Norway is definitely a rock nation and they do like their black metal, but there’s also a very vibrant electronica scene and everything in between. And then there’s A-Ha of course. The heavy metal cliché is traditionally more appropriate on Finland, but as with any other country in the region so much more is going on. Iceland = floaty ethereal whale music A lot of that going around, definitely, but again: There’s more to it than meets the cliché. Who are your favourite scando acts at the moment - who have you been really enjoying (aside from the wonderful norwegian bands of Lazy Acre obviously :) !!!) Well, apart from those obvious ones... There are so many, but off the top of my head I will have to mention Kellermensch, Delay Trees, This Is Head, Jonathan Johansson, Kråkesølv and Hjaltalín. All acts I’ve come to know through my work with All Scandinavian. Finally I must add Faroese rock outfit Gestir to the list, who has been a favorite since the very first spin of their 2006 debut ‘Burtur Frá Toftunum’. I’ve been waiting impatiently for more from them ever since. How important do you think bloggers are to these young up and coming acts that might not necessarily fit straight into BBC radio or NRK? Do you feel like you do make a difference? Or is that not really your intention are you more interested in just giving a bit of a spotlight to music you love? Starting with the last bit, I would say it’s a combination of the two. I think it’s every blogger’s dream to be able to make a difference in terms of breaking a band etc., but we all start with a desire to spotlight music we love and think everybody else should love. And taking it down a notch we do make a difference for the bands and artists simply by writing about them and presenting their music to our readers. Also, blogs cover a much broader spectra of music as we’re not governed by rigid and unambitious concepts like fixed playlists. So I think bloggers are important, especially to up and coming acts. What’s the best demo track you’ve ever been sent by a completely unknown band? Did they go onto bigger and better things? One that really hit me in that very special, “instant connection” type way was a track I received last year by Finnish indiepop quartet Delay Trees titled ‘Tarantula/Holding On’ from their self-released ‘Soft Construction EP’. I won’t claim to be responsible, but this year they signed a record deal and come September 29 they release their debut album. I’ve had a chance to hear it and it’s great. And could you pick a worst? Since I’m raised to be a nice guy I won’t name any by name, but I will say this: A little self critique never hurt anyone. On the contrary. And finally if you could sum up scandinavian music in 5 words / cliches what would they be?! Melancholy. Curiosity. Inventiveness. Great. Music. Source: Lazy Acre Records meets All Scandinavian Blog about Scandinavian Music All Scandinavian Blog As you maybe know All Scandinavian is taking part in the Blog Collective called Music Alliance Pact (MAP). We are posting each others songs on the 15th of each month with more than 30 blogs worldwide."

Cold Rock
Interviewby Birkir Fjalar Vidarsson (of I Adapt fame) with Haukur S. Magnússon of the band Reykjavik! @ Birkir's blog Halifax Collect Blogspot Most of the times Haukur is interviewing people himself for Grapevine Magazine. Nice part about the new "Cats" single & Icelandic music: The "Cats" single is getting a lot of love. One of it's main parts is quite sweet, soft and calm by your standards. Is it a shock to you when I say it reminds me of later day Maus a little bit? Not that you were taking away from that well of inspiration, but it brings back memories of that band, which I loved dearly. "Hey! It's great to hear that "Cats" is getting love. We love love. It's one of the reasons we're in this whole thing (we are here to help one another get through this thing, whatever it is). No I am not shocked that it reminds you of Maus. I don't think anyone in the band would be shocked by that! We all love Maus a lot (we shared a rehearsal space with them once, briefly, before they broke up finally). Especially Bóas and I, when we were first starting playing together, we bonded over our love of Maus and other early '90s Icelandic music (like Botnleðja, Yucatan, Curver, Kolrassa, etc). We are kind of the same age, him and I, and both of us come from small towns where we would spend the days reading about the music scene in Reykjavík and dreaming of being able to participate. And guess what - now we are!" Cats - Reykjavík! by Reykjavík! "I love Maus, and I urge everyone to check out their stuff. But only the first three albums. Those are legend (my personal favourite: "Ghostsongs"!). There's a sorta 'Icelandic' sound going on there - the sound that I identify as Icelandic. You can hear it in Þeyr and in Sigur Rós and in some of the Sugarcubes work. And with Grafík, and on the Björk track "Joga" (for instance). It's somehow kinda foreboding and cold. Cold rock. Kuldarokk."

The name of the band reminds me of the best topic on the website Iceland Review Online of the last months: Ask Eygló "How do you say “asshole” in Icelandic?" Question: I know a guy from Iceland who is a real asshole. And I would love to call him what he is in his own language. So how do you say “asshole” in Icelandic? My studies in the language have not covered this sort of thing as of yet.
Sue Story, Huntington, WV, USA
Answer: The literal translation of “asshole” is rassgat. However, it is not used as a swearword in Iceland but rather as a compliment. If you want to describe someone as cute or kind you affectionately say: thú ert algjört rassgat (“you are a real asshole”). Strange, I know.I’d rather call that guy: asni (“jerk”—literal meaning “donkey”), leidindaseggur (“trouble maker”), kvikindi (“bastard”—literal meaning “meanie”), hálfviti (“half-a-brainer”), fífl (“fool”), fábjáni (“idiot”), or, if you want to be really mean: skítaklepri (“sticky piece of shit”).

string(33) "Steed Lord in the Spotlight @ IMX"
["atom_content"]=>
string(13307) "A Heart II Heart with Steed Lord Icelandic trio Steed Lord are back with their 2nd full-length studio album "Heart II Heart". The album is a taste of their new sound and direction after having moved their headquarters from Iceland to Los Angeles and having become a three-piece band with producers M.E.G.A and Demo and vocal diva Kali. IMX caught up with the trio. You're all living in LA! When did you move there and why? Yeah the three of us moved there a little over a year ago to work on music. We have always spent a lot of time in the US since we were kids and Kali used to live in L.A. so moving there was very natural for us. We also have a great fan base in North America so we wanted to explore that with more touring and being based in L.A. Many of our friends live there as well as our manager and we know the city very well so it all kinda came together. LA seems to polarise folk. How have you personally found life out there? What are the ups and downs? Life in LA is great. We love it there. We like the mellow vibe and of course the weather is a great bonus. Steed Lord has never been so active since we moved to LA. I guess when we finally did make the big move we just kicked everything into fifth gear. Los Angeles is totally different from Iceland but we kinda like the fact that it is. The ups for us is the fact that we can actually work in music and make a living by doing so and the downside is that our family is far away... but Skype helps a little with that. I think any city can polarise you but just don't let the bullshit get to you and your all good. Does it help that you're musicians / creative types do you think? For us it was a good thing to move to LA because we already had fans in the US after touring a lot and being featured in magazines, blogs, supported by DJs in America and our music has also been featured on TV shows and stuff, so it's good for us to be located in L.A. What kind of touring / gigs have you been doing out there? We have done three big tours across North America for the past 3 years and also supported some of our favorite artists like Chromeo and Peaches for their West Coast US tours so yeah, we are always doing shows in the US. Have you introduced anyone to rotten shark yet? No, but we are always trying to get American people to eat Icelandic candy and they hate our salty black liquorice that we love! What changes has Steed Lord undergone since you've been there in terms of personnel, musical vision etc.? We are a three piece band now, with Kali on the vocals and Demo and M.E.G.A producing the music. We all write the songs together and the three of us are a very strong unit today. We are putting a lot of energy into our songwriting and it's important to us to always release music that we can be proud of and music that we are connected to emotionally. If a tear drops then the songs is ready. What kinds of differences do you feel your new line up / environment has made to the new album? The new line up doesn't really change a lot of things musically except that the songs are now more vocal driven and our chemistry on stage is more intimate. Being in a new environment is always good for our inspiration and the funny thing about that is, we live in L.A. which is always sunny but we are always writing songs that are very melancholy. Is there a concept to the record? Not really but we wanted to make a party record that showcased our emotions through soulful dance tracks with beautiful melodies. But at the end of the day we just want people to dance to this record and feel good.... and blue. What did you want to achieve when you stepped into the studio this time around? We wanted to put out a new sound and let people hear that Steed Lord is evolving, like always, and that we are here to stay. It was also important to make this record sound really good and have it bass heavy and thumping but yet very crisp and bright with Kali´s powerful vocals driving the songs. So a lot of time went into mixing and mastering by M.E.G.A to perfect the vocal sound and the production mix. Did you record at Grand Royal studios again? Yes we recorded about half of the album in the old Beastie Boys vocal booth in Atwater. That room and building has so much musical history that is so important to our youth. Beastie Boys had a major influence on us when we were younger and the funny thing is that we didn't know it until we started reading the tags on the walls and carvings by Beastie Boys, RUN DMC, Method Man and other legends. But as always we also recorded at home in L.A., in our bedroom and also some stuff in our rehearsal space at rehearsals! Anyone else involved in the record? We recorded, produced, mixed and mastered the album ourselves. M.E.G.A is the mix maestro and has a good ear for the mixing and mastering and takes care of that, then we discuss the mixes and tweak together. We are very hands on and like to do things ourselves. But we would love to work with a producer and engineer who's not in the band in the future. That could be fun and also bring something new to the table and take us out of our comfort zone. So we will most likely do that maybe even for the next album, which we have already started working on. What format do your live shows take these days? We just do our thing onstage. We have a very hardcore live show, it's very heavy metal in your face electronic dance music with soulful melodies and sometimes a little touch of hip hop and r&b but onstage we just get into our songs and perform them for the crowds. We always like to have the live versions of the songs a little bit different and be spontant on stage and be experimental and try new things. Demo plays all the keyboard parts live and does percussion and vocoder in between the key parts while M.E.G.A handles the live mix and plays with our stems and samples and twists knobs while Kali is the vocal diva extraordinaire that owns the stage with her big voice and vocal skills and incredible stage presence. She has amazing costumes and she loves to give people a real show. We also have some crazy visuals that we put together ourselves and which M.E.G.A controls with midi controllers. You already released some singles from the new album - how have they been going down? We have released three singles to our upcoming "Heart II Heart" album. "Bed Of Needles" was the first single that we released in march 2010 and then we released "Vanguardian" in May, and now "123, If You Want Me" b/w "One Good Reason" in August.
All of the singles have great remixes and are available on Beatport, iTunes and all other major digital stores now. We got a very good response to "Bed Of Needles" and when we put it out we actually didn't know how people and fans would take it because it's kinda melancholy and sad even though it's a driving dance track. It was a very great moment when "Bed Of Needles" got played at EDC in LA this summer. which is the biggest electronic festival in the US by DJ Laidback Luke who closed his set and played the AKS & Syndaesia Remix of "Bed Of Needles" in front of over 125,000 dancing people and the crowd went totally bananas. It was thrilling for us and a huge honour. Check it out here - it´s pretty mental. What else you been doing out there besides the album? A bunch of stuff. We are always working on something everyday whether it's music, photography, videos or designs. We just released our first official music video to the song "One Good Reason" which we made ourselves this summer in LA that you can view here. And we will be making videos to almost every song on the Heart II Heart album. We are making most of the videos ourselves but we also have an exciting collaboration in the works for a video that we have been planning for years. We are also making limited edition Steed Lord dresses for girls that we are gonna be selling along with our merch online in a few days on www.steedlord.bigcartel.com. And there are also some exciting projects coming up for Steed Lord in the future that we can´t talk about yet but are big fun and pretty crazy. What do you miss most about Iceland? Our family and friends, our 2 persian cats, the swimming pools, the candy, the food, water and the clean air. What are your post-album release plans? Heart II Heart is out on September 7th exclusively on Beatport (worldwide) and on iTunes, Amazon, Gogoyoko and other stores on September 28th. We are also making a limited edition CD of the album with some crazy remixes and edits and selling it on www.steedlord.com soon. But as of today you can pre-listen to our whole album here in 128k streaming quality. We are currently starting a European tour right now with our new live show and hitting up Copenhagen, Stockholm, Malmö, Paris, Hamburg, Ulm, Barcelona and Zurich so we are pumped and excited to play our new album to these cities soon and we hope people will like our album. www.youtube.com/v/XuIFB2AFYao?fs=1&hl&fmt=18

["atom_content"]=>
string(11262) "Today I read some bad news for music blogs/mp3 blogs.

["atom_content"]=>
string(13307) "A Heart II Heart with Steed Lord Icelandic trio Steed Lord are back with their 2nd full-length studio album "Heart II Heart".
