The Imagine Peace Tower on Videy Island near Reykjavik will be lit up again tonight at 20.00. Today is John Lennon’s birthday.
To celebrate the Tower’s third year, Lennon’s widow and Peace Tower mastermind Yoko Ono is offering free trips to the island today and all weekend. There will also be a memorial concert for John Lennon tonight at 22.00 in the Reykjavik Art Museum Hafnarhusid.
According to a press release from the City of Reykjavik, boats to Videy will start today at 18.45 and continue until 20.00.
Refreshments will be on offer and guests are encouraged to write their hopes and dreams on Yoko Ono’s Wish Tree. Music will be provided by the Hamrahlid Choir.
The lighting ceremony will take place at 20.00 and boats back to Reykjavik will begin at 20.30 and end at 21.30, or until needed.
The free trips on Saturday and Sunday will leave for Videy at 20.00 and return at 22.00.
The Imagine Peace Tower will shine every night until the 8th December – the anniversary of John Lennon’s assassination. More details here.
